Little conger

The Little conger (''Gnathophis longicauda'', also known as the Little conger eel or the Silver conger〔(Common names for ''Gnathophis longicauda'' ) at www.fishbase.org.〕) is an eel in the family Congridae (conger/garden eels).〔(''Gnathophis longicauda'' ) at www.fishbase.org.〕 It was described by Edward Pierson Ramsay and James Douglas Ogilby in 1888, originally under the genus ''Congromuraena''.〔Ramsay, E. P. and J. D. Ogilby, 1888 (Mar. 28) (18601 ) ''Descriptions of two new fishes from Port Jackson.'' Proceedings of the Linnean Society of New South Wales (Series 2) v. 2 (pt 4): 1021-1023.〕 It is a marine, temperate water-dwelling eel which is endemic to Australia, in the Indo-West Pacific. It dwells at a depth range of 2-99 metres, and inhabits the continental shelf and slope.〔
